Designed by Tony Parker and his team, the venue hosts basketball matches with the club LDLC Asvel based in the town of Villeurbanne. It also welcomes 120 other events, both sporting and cultural. Drawing in big names, LDLC Arena has become a hub of activity on Lyon’s cultural scene.
What’s on at the LDLC Arena
Since its launch, LDLC Arena has been visited by big-name artists from France and around the world, including Justin Timberlake, Dua Lipa and Kylie Minogue, as well as bands like the Jonas Brothers, Rammstein and Green Day.
That said, sport remains the main focus at this venue owned by the OL Groupe. Among other things, it has hosted handball matches and international wrestling bouts with WWE Smackdown and Backlash.
LDLC Arena: the basketball club ASVEL’s new stadium
In 2014, Tony Parker and OL Groupe initiated a project to create an “American-style” stadium, complete with one of the best sound systems in France. It was specially designed to allow the layout to be changed extremely rapidly, to be able to host different kinds of sports events and shows in quick succession.
LDLC Arena is home to the basketball club LDLC Asvel. It hosts between 12 and 17 matches each year, welcoming major clubs like Real Madrid and Panathinaikos BC.
